You may be eligible for up to 80% coverage of the equipment rental through your extended health benefits or government assistance programs. (Delivery, setup, and pickup fees are usually not covered.)
To submit a claim:
- Request a prescription from your Ophthalmologist indicating the need for facedown recovery equipment.
- Submit the prescription along with your sales receipt to your provider.
- Most Ophthalmologist offices are happy to provide a supporting letter upon request—this can improve your chances.
Based on our experience:
- Sunlife, ODSP, and smaller insurers: Often provide strong coverage.
- Canada Life, GreenShield, Blue Cross: Can be more difficult, but some claims are approved—especially when working through HR.
- Manulife: Coverage varies based on your plan.
- Teachers and retired teachers: Coverage varies by contract.
- ODSP → No longer covered as of Summer 2025 due to a policy change
Other Notes:
** MEDICAL EXPENSE: The Canada Revenue Agency has deemed our facedown rental equipment as medical equipment. Documentation can be provided from our Tax Consultants on request from us. You can Email us and our office will be able to get back to you.
** ODSP: If you are on ODSP, we have been told by the Hamilton office that the equipment is covered and that this is the same for everyone across the Province.
We’re here to help and will gladly support you in the claims process.
